What Do Clear Aligners Actually Cost in India?
Ask three clinics what clear aligners cost and you may get three very different answers.
That does not necessarily mean one clinic is expensive and another is cheap.
Often, they are quoting for completely different treatment packages.
One may include a short series of trays with limited corrections. Another may include scans, attachments, refinement trays, clinical supervision and retainers. A third may be quoting a different aligner system entirely.
So when patients ask me what aligner treatment costs in India, the more useful question is:
What exactly am I paying for?
Here is how to compare two aligner quotes properly.
Why do clear aligner costs vary so much in India?
Clear aligner cost varies because treatment complexity, number of trays, aligner system, clinical supervision, attachments, refinements, records and retainers can all be different. A short treatment for minor spacing is not equivalent to a complex bite correction requiring many stages. The useful comparison is therefore what each quote includes, not simply the headline amount.
Two patients can both be wearing transparent trays and still be receiving very different treatments.
One may need to move four front teeth slightly.
Another may need rotations, space creation, bite correction and multiple rounds of refinement.
The plastic may look similar.
The treatment plan is not.
What are you actually paying for with clear aligners?
An aligner fee usually covers much more than the plastic trays themselves. Depending on the clinic and treatment system, it may include diagnosis, digital scans, treatment planning, the aligner series, attachments, clinical reviews, refinement trays and sometimes retainers. Before comparing quotes, ask for a clear list of what is and is not included.
Think of the treatment as several separate components:
| Component | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Clinical examination | Confirms whether teeth and gums are healthy enough to move |
| Photographs and scans | Records current tooth position |
| X-rays where indicated | Helps assess roots, bone and underlying problems |
| Digital treatment plan | Maps the intended tooth movements |
| Aligner trays | Carry out the planned movements |
| Attachments | Help certain teeth move more predictably |
| Review appointments | Check whether treatment is tracking correctly |
| Refinements | Additional trays when the first series does not finish the job |
| Retainers | Help maintain the result afterwards |
A low quote may still be perfectly reasonable.
But you need to know which of these elements it contains.
Does the complexity of my teeth affect the aligner price?
Yes. Treatment complexity is one of the biggest drivers of aligner cost. Minor spacing or mild crowding may require relatively few movements and trays, while severe crowding, rotations, bite correction or larger movements may need substantially more stages, clinical monitoring and refinement. More complex treatment generally requires more planning and more aligners.
This is why giving an accurate quote from a photograph is difficult.
What looks like one crooked front tooth may involve:
- lack of space elsewhere in the arch
- a rotated root
- bite interference
- gum or bone limitations
- movement needed in several other teeth first
The visible problem is not always the whole treatment.
Does the number of aligner trays affect the cost?
Usually, yes. A case requiring a relatively short sequence of aligners generally involves less treatment than one requiring dozens of stages. However, tray count alone does not tell you everything because different aligner systems package treatment differently, and some plans include refinements while others charge separately for additional trays.
Suppose one quote includes a limited number of trays.
Another includes a much larger treatment package and additional refinement rounds.
Comparing only the two final numbers would be misleading.
Ask instead:
How many stages are expected?
What happens if my teeth do not track perfectly?
Are additional aligners included?
Those questions tell you far more.
Do different clear aligner brands cost different amounts?
Yes. Clear aligner systems differ in manufacturing, software, treatment-planning support, material, clinician tools and the way treatment packages are structured. International and Indian systems may therefore be priced differently. The brand matters, but it should not be considered separately from the diagnosis and the clinician managing the case.
Patients often begin with the brand:
“Should I choose Invisalign?”
That is understandable because Invisalign is widely recognised.
But the brand name alone does not determine whether the treatment plan is appropriate.
A sophisticated aligner system paired with a poor diagnosis is still a poor treatment.
A well-selected system with sensible clinical oversight may produce an excellent result.
Is Invisalign cost in India different from other clear aligners?
Invisalign and other aligner systems can differ in price because the manufacturing platform, treatment package, software and included services vary. However, comparing Invisalign with another system only by price can be misleading. First establish whether both options can treat your case predictably and what each treatment package includes.
This is similar to comparing aligners against fixed braces.
The cheapest appliance is not automatically the wrong choice.
The most expensive one is not automatically the best choice either.
The clinical fit comes first.
Do attachments increase clear aligner cost?
Attachments are small tooth-coloured shapes bonded temporarily to selected teeth to help an aligner grip and produce certain movements more effectively. Whether they change the quoted fee depends on the treatment package. Some clinics include them routinely, while others structure fees differently. Ask whether attachments and their replacement are included.
Attachments are especially useful when a tooth needs more than a simple tipping movement.
They may help with:
- rotation
- extrusion
- root control
- anchorage
- more difficult movements
Seeing attachments on a treatment plan does not mean something has gone wrong.
They are often part of making aligners work more predictably.
What are refinement trays and do they affect the final cost?
Refinements are additional aligners created when teeth have not reached the planned final position after the initial series. They are common in aligner treatment. Some packages include one or more refinement rounds, while others limit them or charge separately. This is one of the most important things to clarify before accepting a quote.
Teeth are biological structures.
They do not always move exactly as software predicts.
At the end of the first series, the dentist may rescan the teeth and create another set of trays to fine-tune the result.
So ask:
How many refinements are included?
A quote that includes them is not directly comparable with one that does not.
Does treatment duration affect clear aligner cost?
Treatment duration and complexity are closely related. Longer cases usually involve more tooth movement, more trays and more clinical reviews, although pricing models differ between aligner systems. Your estimated treatment duration should therefore be discussed together with the number of stages and expected complexity.
The key word is estimated.
A digital plan might project a certain number of months.
But treatment can take longer if:
- trays are not worn consistently
- appointments are missed
- teeth do not track as predicted
- additional refinements are needed
- treatment goals change
This is why an unusually short promised timeline deserves questions.
Does dentist or orthodontist supervision affect the price?
Clinical supervision is part of what you are paying for. Proper aligner treatment involves assessing the teeth, gums, bite and supporting structures, planning tooth movement and checking progress throughout treatment. A service with little or no face-to-face clinical involvement is not equivalent to a fully supervised orthodontic treatment plan.
This is one area where I would not choose purely on cost.
The American Association of Orthodontists has specifically highlighted concerns about treatment models that begin without an appropriate in-person examination or X-rays where clinically necessary.
Are cheap online clear aligners safe?
The concern with very low-cost direct-to-consumer aligners is not simply the brand or price. The risk arises when treatment starts without a proper clinical examination, appropriate imaging or ongoing professional oversight. Tooth movement affects roots, gums, bone and bite, so problems that are invisible in a photograph can matter.
Before moving teeth, we need to know whether the supporting tissues are healthy.
For example, undiagnosed gum disease changes the risk of orthodontic movement.
So does significant bone loss.
So can untreated decay.
This is why “send us a selfie and receive trays” is not equivalent to proper clinical treatment.
Is the initial scan included in clear aligner cost?
It depends on the clinic. Some treatment packages include the consultation, digital scan, photographs and necessary records, while others charge for some of these separately. Before agreeing to treatment, ask whether the initial records are included and whether additional scans during refinements attract another fee.
The same applies to X-rays.
Do not assume that because one clinic quotes a single bundled figure, every clinic structures the fee the same way.
Get the inclusions in writing.
Are retainers included in the cost of clear aligners?
Not always. Retainers are a separate but essential stage after active orthodontic movement because teeth have a tendency to shift after treatment. Some aligner packages include retainers while others do not, and the number or type supplied can vary. Ask about retention before treatment begins, not after your final tray.
This is one of the easiest costs to overlook.
Straightening the teeth is only the active phase.
Keeping them there is the retention phase.
The American Association of Orthodontists notes that teeth can move after treatment and that ongoing retainer wear is important for maintaining the result.
What should be included in a good clear aligner quote?
A useful aligner quote should make clear which treatment system is being used, what clinical records are included, the expected scope of treatment, whether attachments and refinements are covered, how reviews are handled and whether retainers are included. Without this information, two quoted prices cannot be compared meaningfully.
Before deciding, ask these questions:
- Which aligner system is being used?
- What treatment complexity/package am I being quoted for?
- Are scans and necessary records included?
- Are attachments included?
- How many refinement rounds are included?
- Are review appointments included?
- Are retainers included?
- What happens if treatment runs longer than planned?
- Who is clinically supervising my treatment?
That gives you a much better comparison than asking only, “How much?”
How should I compare two clear aligner quotes?
Compare the clinical scope first and the total quote second. Confirm that both plans are intended to achieve the same treatment goal and include equivalent records, aligners, attachments, reviews, refinements and retainers. If one package excludes several of these items, a lower headline quote may not actually represent a lower complete treatment cost.
Here is a simple comparison:
| Ask about | Quote A | Quote B |
|---|---|---|
| Same treatment goal? | ✓ / ✗ | ✓ / ✗ |
| Clinical examination included? | ✓ / ✗ | ✓ / ✗ |
| Scan/records included? | ✓ / ✗ | ✓ / ✗ |
| Attachments included? | ✓ / ✗ | ✓ / ✗ |
| Refinements included? | ✓ / ✗ | ✓ / ✗ |
| Reviews included? | ✓ / ✗ | ✓ / ✗ |
| Retainers included? | ✓ / ✗ | ✓ / ✗ |
| Clinician supervising treatment? | ✓ / ✗ | ✓ / ✗ |
If those columns are different, the two prices are not comparing the same thing.
Why doesn't The Tooth Company publish a fixed clear aligner price online?
Clear aligner treatment is individually planned, so a single advertised figure can be misleading. The appropriate treatment package depends on the tooth movements required, treatment complexity and what the plan includes. We prefer to assess the case first and explain what is needed before providing a personalised quote.
That does not mean the price should be mysterious.
Quite the opposite.
Once your case is assessed, you should understand what you are paying for and why.
A clear quote is useful.
A generic number without a diagnosis usually is not.
What should I remember about clear aligner cost in India?
Do not compare clear aligner treatment by headline price alone. Compare diagnosis, treatment complexity, number of stages, clinical supervision, refinements and retention. Two quotes can look very different because they cover different things. First establish which treatment is clinically appropriate, then compare equivalent packages.
If I could give a patient only one piece of advice before choosing aligners, it would be:
Ask what is included before asking which quote is cheaper.
That single question prevents most unpleasant surprises.

Frequently Asked Questions
Clear aligner prices vary because treatment complexity, number of trays, aligner system, clinical supervision, attachments, refinements and retainers may all differ. A short treatment with limited trays is not directly comparable to a more complex plan that includes multiple refinement stages and long-term clinical monitoring.
The main concern is treatment provided without adequate clinical examination, appropriate imaging or professional supervision. Moving teeth affects the roots, gums, bone and bite. Any underlying disease or structural problem should therefore be identified before orthodontic tooth movement begins.
Not necessarily. Some treatment packages include retainers while others charge for them separately. Retainers are important because teeth can move after active orthodontic treatment, so ask what type and number of retainers are included before agreeing to treatment.
Payment arrangements differ between clinics and treatment providers. Because clear aligner treatment occurs over several months, some clinics offer staged payments or financing options. Ask the clinic directly about payment terms and make sure you understand the total treatment scope before comparing financing arrangements.
