Bacteria in the mouth turns foods, especially sugars and starch into acids. When acids, bacteria, food particles and saliva mix, they form a thin film on the teeth, called plaque. Over a period of time, and poor oral cleaning, the acids in the plaque erode the tooth enamel and dentin causing tooth decay and consequently forming cavities.
One needs to avoid foods that are high on carbs, sugars, and acidic in nature. Not getting adequate fluoride also causes Tooth Cavity.
Snacking frequently throughout the day too cause tooth cavity.
Tooth cavities further cause tooth infection, toothache, loss of tooth.
Dental treatment for cavities include, cleaning and filling, using crowns to cap the tooth surface, if required.
